EU citizens can compete for tuition-free state-funded places in Latvia; on fee-paying places the University of Latvia charges e.g. €2,600 a year for EU citizens and €3,500 for others on an English-taught bachelor's (2026/27). Study in Europe counts 29 higher education institutions and 24 colleges, with over 200 programmes in English. Discover how admission works and what a month costs (on average €450–700).
Whether you face an exam or an interview depends on the university and the programme. For example, for the University of Latvia's English-taught bachelor's in English, European Languages and Business Studies, applicants are ranked by their secondary school grades (including English, mathematics and the average), plus an online interview. Applicants from outside the EU also need a SAT score of at least 1200.
