EU/EEA students pay the statutory fee of €2,694 a year for full-time programmes in 2026/27, while non-EU students pay on average €9,000–20,000 for a bachelor's and €12,000–30,000 for a master's. At Maastricht University more than half of the students come from abroad. See what a student spends a month (€1,000–1,500 on average), how to find a room and when a job can qualify EU citizens for student finance.
The Netherlands has a very large number of programmes taught entirely in English, especially at master's level. You will usually need IELTS 6.0 or higher, or TOEFL – the institution sets the exact score.
For programmes taught in Dutch you have to pass the state exam in Dutch as a second language – Staatsexamen NT2. University language centres run preparatory courses at levels from beginner to advanced; a full cycle of intensive classes costs €250–2,500.
Even if you study in English, basic Dutch will make everyday life and finding a side job easier.
