More than 170 programmes taught in English at every level, with fees for foreign students – EU citizens included – of around €2,500 a year on average, according to Study in Serbia. The University of Belgrade has 31 faculties and around 90,000 students, and a student canteen meal costs €1–2.60. Read on to see how to apply to a faculty, what a month costs in Belgrade or Novi Sad and which permits you need to work.
To work legally in Serbia, you need two documents: a temporary (or permanent) residence permit and a work permit. The work permit is issued by the National Employment Service (Nacionalna služba za zapošljavanje). Serbia is not in the EU, so this applies to EU citizens too.
The work permit is issued for 3–12 months, and a decision takes two days on average. You renew it the same way as you applied for it the first time.
Without Serbian it is hard to find a casual job. Researchers and doctoral candidates will find information on EURAXESS Serbia.
