Tracing Mobility, the first of Radiator's three international symposia, examines the emergence of a new art space, a space born out of the technology used to control and divide society. Taking place at Nottingham Contemporary on Saturday 15 May to coincide with the Uneven Geographies exhibition.
Presentations by artists and speakers from diverse fields as geography,
urban theory and computer science will explore what constitutes being
nomadic these days and how developments in networked and open source
infrastructure are transforming our expectations of 'Place'.
Tracing Mobility will witness two interventions by Polish artists.
Kasia Krakowiak's
"Radio all.FM" will be taking to
Nottingham's streets as a human antenna, broadcasting at close-range. If
your radio starts behaving strangely, you can assume she is in the
area. Nottingham hosts one of the biggest Polish communities in the UK.
"Radio all.FM "invites them all
back home to Poland, using words of encouragement drawn from propaganda
posters that urged Poles to return to territories recovered after WWII.
These siren’s calls emanate from a mobile transmitter wheeled in a
shopping bag, affecting any radio set within a 30m radius.
"Radio All.FM"'s interventions can
be heard everyday from 13 to 16 May between 10 and 6 pm. A live
transmission may be experienced in Broadway Media Centre, Nottingham, on
May 14.
Joanna Warsza is planning an
artistic action at Redford Road, a location reflecting the
socio-economical situation of the new Polish diaspora in UK. Kurdic
shops in the area sell only Polish products. Joanna Warsza will come up
with a series of thought-provoking micro-scale interventions reflreting
on the phenomenon of new European migrations. These artistic activities
will climax with food and drinks which will be served at the
Hairdresser's "Alter Ego Salon". All guests are welcome.
