Festa Major
Catalonian town Vilafranca del Penedés celebrates its rich cultural heritage and folklore during the annual Festa Major. The five-day party includes Saint Felix's Day on 30 August with its famous human pyramids formed by towers of castellers.
Teams compete to build the tallest human tower possible, some reaching
seven human storeys high. The crazed acrobats draw huge crowds to the
town plaza, as do monster processions of devils, giants, eagles and one
of Catalonia's emblems, the dragon.
The festival highlight is the entrance of Saint Felix's statue into the basilica, when the sky is ablaze with fireworks.
