Hornschlittenrennen
The Hornschlittenrennen (literally, "horn runners race") is "a Gaudi", Bavarian for fantastic fun, as four-person teams career down an iced piste at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on ancient peasant sleighs. Over 100 teams battle for the Bavarian championship.
It's a fabulous spectacle when the ancient vehicles are at full tilt, as
their screaming drivers frequently lose team members at steep passages
or turns. This craziness tends to weed out wimps, and the race is a
peerless event, attracting teams from all over the Alps.
