Berlin New Year Run
There's a novel way to cure the traditional New Year's hangover - the Berlin New Year Run. Starting at the Brandenburg Gate, brave souls run four kilometres in sub-zero temperatures around some of Berlin's most famous sights.
The run is open to all and there is no advance booking required. Kids
are encouraged, even if they are riding on shoulders. There are no
winners (and, of course, that means no losers), but everybody who
participates gets an opportunity to run (or stroll) down Berlin's main
boulevard without any cars in the way, as well as passing some of the
city's most famous sights.
Around 3500 people are brave enough to
participate every year. There is no registration fee, but donations
from participants go to charity.
