The Dance of the Mad Ones and the Bear
Córdoban village Fuente Carreteros puts on a vibrant fiesta with some unusual traditions. Locals perform the Baile de los Los Locos y el Oso (Dance of the Mad Ones and the Bear) to banish bad omens for the new year.
The Dance of the Locos is bursting with fun and fury. Six dancers
directed by a master of swords move to the rhythms played by six
musicians. Every once in a while, six gunmen release a single shot from
their muskets to mark the beginning and end of the music.
During the Dance of the Bear, a local dressed as a bear is chased through the streets by another man and hit with a stick.
