New Year's Gala Concert

Perhaps the most decadent event to take place in Budapest, the New Year's Gala Concert at the Hungarian State Opera House is the party of the season. A lavish programme of classical music and plenty of champagne keep guests entertained.

Typically the gala concert begins with excerpts from Johann Strauss' famous operetta Die Fledermaus, performed by the soloists of the Hungarian State Opera. Dinner is served in the boxes, on the stage and in the state rooms before the musical celebrations continue until midnight.

After the New Year toast, the Hungarian national anthem is played and the champagne is ceremoniously opened on stage. A professional dance show gets the ball started. Other entertainment includes a piano bar in the Székely Bertalan Room, a dance band in the assembly hall and dancing on the stage.
