Cézanne, Picasso, Giacometti... Masterpieces from the Fondation Beyeler
On loan from the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland, a collection of Impressionist and 20th-century masterpieces is on display at Vienna's Leopold Museum. The focus of the exhibition is Picasso, Matisse, Fernand Léger, Paul Klee and in particular Alberto Giacometti.
The Beyeler collection was put together by gallery owners and husband
and wife team, Hildy and Ernst Beyeler, over the past 50 years. Today it
consists of around 200 paintings and sculptures by modern masters. The
exhibition commemorates collectors Rudolf Leopold and Ernst Beyeler,
both of whom passed away earlier in 2010. As a return favour, a number
of pieces from the Leopold collection travel to the Beyeler Fondation in
Basel.
