Wianki & Free Music Festival
Wianki, on the banks of the Vistula at Krakow, is not only an ancient paean to midsummer with sobotka (ceremonial bonfires) lit along the river, but also a free music festival. Tradition is also served with wreaths set adrift downstream.
Dating from pagan times, maidens float herb wreaths (wianki) down river to predict when they'll be married (and to whom), and there is still a competition for the best wreath.

Polish and international music acts continue celebrations in the
evening on the river bank opposite imposing Royal Wawel Castle. In 2010
joining Polish groups PIN, Biff and Maciej Maleńczuk with Psychodancing
are BrainStorm from Latvia and Kosheen from Britain. Post-concert crowds
populate lively bars and clubs in Krakow's extensive underground cellar
scene.
