Engadine Ski Marathon
St Moritz hosts the internationally renowned Engadine Ski Marathon. The 42km (26.2-mile) course draws around 13,000 participants for a gruelling day of cross-country skiing. The race starts in Maloja and continues down the valley to finish in S-chanf.
The marathon began in 1969 and, in the early years, only around 1000
sportsmen considered themselves sufficiently tough to master the
distance. It has now grown from a gathering of cross-country freaks to a
large, colourful and multinational competition.
