Mainz Fastnacht Parade
One of Germany's three carnival capitals (alongside Cologne and Düsseldorf), Mainz stages its Fastnacht Parade on the Monday before Shrove Tuesday. Let yourself be swept away by the masquerade and admire the uniforms in the traditional colours of the city.
Numerous stalls selling the famous local wine help to get celebrants
into the party mood, the atmosphere is fantastic and a great carnival
experience is guaranteed.
Around 8000 participants form
orchestral carnival groups to march through the picturesque inner city.
Come early, secure some space and, when the last lorry leaves the narrow
streets, make your way to one of the local pubs for post-carnival
celebrations.
