Palm Sunday in Elche
Elche stages Spain's most spectacular Palm Sunday celebrations. Locals parade the streets carrying lofty leaves from the city's famous Palmera grove, the largest palm plantation in Europe. The processions also feature intricate sculptures woven from the local leaves.
Elche's Palm Sunday parades were declared of International Tourist
Interest in 1997. The parades finish at the Basílica de Santa María,
where mass is then held.
