Aalborg Carnival
Aalborg plays host to a massive carnival parade each May. Around 25,000 people participate and more than 100,000 join in along the route. The big street party has been going strong since 1982.
One highlight is the annual Battle of Carnival Bands. Selected groups
from around the world parade through the centre of Aalborg and then hit
Kildeparken, where they perform on stage in front of a panel of judges.
The grand finale, featuring the top groups from the preliminary contest,
takes place after the Grand Parade.
Children have their own
version of the parade on Monday, with everyone encouraged to embrace the
carnival spirit by dressing up and enjoying the festivities with the
many other thousands of spectators.
Always highly varied in
terms of the entertainment offered, the Aalborg Carnival remains
consistent in having a theme for each year's celebration. This year's
theme is the intriguing 'Sexzoological Garden'.
