Holmboe Festival
Horsens hosts the annual classical music Holmboe Festival in memory of the great Danish composer Vagn Holmboe (1909-1996). His works are among those performed by national and international musicians at venues all over town.
Vagn Holmboe studied composition at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in
Copenhagen, and spent time studying in Berlin and Romania, where the
folk music was a great inspiration to him. Haydn, Nielsen, Sibelius,
Stravinsky and Bartok were also influences on his work.
Holmboe
composed 13 symphonies, solo concerti for most of the instruments of the
orchestra, 20 string quartets and a number of works for mixed chorus a
cappella. These include the beautiful series Liber Canticorum.
