UK Backward Running Championships
Held in Manchester's Heaton Park, the UK Backward Running Championships sees competitors negotiate a mile-long course backwards. Although it looks comical, it's a surprisingly demanding exercise and great workout - when fitness aficionados try it they never look forwards. (Sorry.)
Running backwards, or retro- or reverse-running as its marketing gurus
would like you to call it, is a little-known sport in the UK but is
somewhat better known in mainland Europe.
One of the very few
British events of its kind, the UK Backward Running Championships
attracts up to 200 competitors and is held partially to support local
charity.
