Calvi Polyphonic Singing Festival

Calvi Polyphonic Singing Festival (Les Rencontres Polyphonique de Calvi) is one of the island's most celebrated events, filling the town with crowds of onlookers. Polyphonic ensembles from as far as Mongolia and Tibet also perform at the festival.

Polyphonic singing is an important part of Corsican identity. The technique involves manipulating the resonances of the voice as the air travels through the vocal chords and out through the mouth and lips. Sometimes it can seem as if the singer is sounding two notes at the same time.
