Cologne Marathon

The Cologne Marathon crosses the River Rhine at the start, and takes around 27,000 runners past the twin towers of the city's immense cathedral. After that it's three or four gruelling hours of running past Romanesque churches and through green parklands.

The race also has sections for wheelchair users and inline skaters, handbikers and even an 11km walk.
