The Italian Job
Inspired by the 1969 film, the Italian Job is an annual sponsored Mini Cooper rally from Italy to Britain. Each two-man team is required to raise £1500, and the event has made over £2 million for children's charities.
Brighton-based Mini nut Freddie St George is the Noel Coward behind the
caper, with Michael Caine a patron. Minis are the cars of choice, but
any car that appears in the 1969 film can be used; Aston Martin DB4s,
E-type Jags and Alfa Giula police cars have all taken part.
In
2011 the rally starts in Imola and follows an itinerary that involves a
lap or two on a F1 racing circuit and a thrilling spin on the world
famous roof top track Lingotto before ending somewhere in south-east
England. Check the website for the latest itinerary.
