Marché de Franc
Every month, Noyon's principal streets and the Place de l'Hotel de Ville are taken over by the Marché de Franc, a large provincial market which sells fruit, vegetables, seasonal flowers, wine, champagne and clothes.
This was originally a livestock market, but has now mutated into a great
place to stock up on French food essentials as well as to explore the
stalls selling regional specialities.
Specialities to watch out for include Thiérache cider, the Picardie Folie Douce
aperitif, Deutz champagne and Pommeau, a digestif made from cider and
honey. The strong fruit-growing traditions around Noyon also ensure a
healthy supply of delicious jams and fruit syrups along with Picardie
foie gras, Maroilles and Maliécourt cheese (ewe and goat's cheese
respectively).
