Events for students in Europe

In the context of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009), Astronomy Day is a movement designed to share the joy of astronomy with the general population.

Combining three key events on the IP calendar - the European Patent Forum, PATINNOVA 2009 and the European Inventor of the Year awards - this unmissable conference will be held on 28-30 April 2009 in Prague, Czech Republic. The event is co-organised by the European Patent Office and the European Commission with the support of the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic and in partnership with the Czech Presidency of the EU Council.

The legendary ORBIS PICTUS exhibition conceived by the artist Petr Nikl has been given the status of an accompanying event for the Czech Presidency of the European Union. The exhibition will be presented in April 2009 in Brussels in the European Commission (Madou Tower) and in Prague in May 2009.

European Commission & American Chamber of Commerce to the EU: “Create the Innovation - Looking at Europe’s Global Future” Conference.
This conference aims to provide a forum in which key public policy makers, business leaders and policy analysts can share their insights on how to promote and develop innovation and creativity in a Europe which is open to the wider world.

Öffentlich finanzierte Forschung spielt eine Schlüsselrolle in der Entwicklung neuer Arzneimittel. Weltweit werden über 40% der Forschung mit öffentlichen Geldern finanziert. Das Modell “equitable license” wurde entwickelt, um den Zugang zu bezahlbaren Medikamenten für armen Patienten in Entwicklungsländern zu verbessern.

This conference organised by the Goethe Institut Brussels addresses issues concerning Intellectual Property, Creativity and Innovation in the Digital Era.
The era of digital networks has given rise to new problems in the area of Intellectual Property, e. g. the massive numbers of downloads of film, music and software and copyright issues arising out of the digitalisation of entire public libraries.

Dazu gehört der Umgang mit dem massenhaften Herunterladen von Musik, Filmen und Software über Internet-Tauschbörsen, aber zum Beispiel auch Urheberrechtsfragen, die bei der Digitalisierung ganzer Bibliotheken entstehen.

Public funded research and development (R&D) has a key role in the development of new medicines. Worldwide approximately 50% of R&D is financed by public funds. The model "equitable licensing" was developed to increase access to medicines for poor people in developing countries. The conference will connect decision makers from research, politics and civil society to discuss how to proceed with innovative medical research, relevant to address issues of global health. The European Cultural and Creative Industries Summit 2009 - 'Digital Shift' is a high profile Summit to debate the prospect for Cultural and Creative Industries across Europe in the light of new Digital Technologies. The summit is taking place at the Committee of the Regions Building in Brussels on Thursday 23rd April and will be followed by an evening event at the Belgian Comic Strip Centre.

The European Future Technologies Conference and Exhibition is a new European forum dedicated to frontier research in future and emerging information technologies. Leading scientists, policy-makers, industry representatives and science journalists will convene over 3 days to discuss today's frontier science, tomorrow's technologies and the impact of both on tomorrow's society.

In the context of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009, the Committee of the Regions will, together with the European Commission, organise a two-day ‘Forum’ to showcase the creativity of Europe’s regions and cities and to prove that creativity and innovation can be of key importance for a successful turn in economic development.

Joint meeting of the ENCATC working groups “Creative Entrepreneurship and education in cultural life” and “Urban management and cultural politics of the city”.
The participants of this ENCATC event will reflect on the ideas and experiences put forward during the Forum "Europe’s Creative regions and Cities”, organised by the Committee of the Regions at the same time.

In 2009, the European Opera Forum will be hosted by Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona from 17 to 19 April, and the European Opera Days will celebrate the European Year of Creativity and Innovation on 9 May, Europe Day, all over the continent.

The European People’s Party in the Committee of the Regions is once again joining forces with the European People’s Party for its fourth edition of its Summer University for local and regional journalists in Brussels on 14-15 April 2009.
