Hungary

Country: Hungary

EU/EEA citizens can study tuition-free on state-funded places in Hungarian-taught programmes; English-taught ones charge fees set by each university, and students from partner countries outside the EU can have tuition covered by Stipendium Hungaricum. Hungary's 65 institutions offer more than 1,000 programmes in several languages. See how to apply, what a month costs (around €500–600) and how many hours you can work.

Stipendium Hungaricum – Hungary's best-known scholarship – is based on agreements with more than 90 partners. If you come from one of the partner countries, it covers your tuition. No EU country is on the list, so EU citizens cannot use it.

Other options:

  • a state-funded place on a programme in Hungarian (for EU citizens) – i.e. studying without tuition fees (see: Tuition fees),
  • Erasmus+ – a semester or year in Hungary as part of an exchange with your home university,
  • CEEPUS – exchanges in Central and South-Eastern Europe,
  • Bilateral State Scholarships and EEA Grants scholarships – details and conditions on studyinhungary.hu.

You will find an overview of programmes on studyinhungary.hu.
