Deadlines depend on the applicant’s country: for applicants from Poland, master’s scholarships for winter semester 2027/28, research grants and bi-nationally supervised doctorates share a deadline of 16 November 2026.
The DAAD publishes its funding offer in the online DAAD scholarship database. Once you select your country of origin, each programme shows its own deadline, selection date and start of funding. The DAAD updates these deadlines every year in the second quarter and notes that they usually fall in the same period as in the previous year.
This means there is no single DAAD deadline. For some countries, the deadlines for funding in 2027 already passed in late summer or early autumn 2026, while others are still ahead. For applicants from Poland, both the database and the DAAD Regional Office Warsaw (daad.pl) list 16 November 2026 for three major programmes, described below. If you come from another country, check your own version of the database before planning.
The study scholarships for master’s programmes in all academic disciplines are aimed at graduates who will have completed a first degree, such as a bachelor’s, by the time funding begins. The scholarship covers a full master’s programme at a German university.
As a rule, your most recent degree should not be more than six years old at the application deadline, and proof of the language of instruction should not be older than three years. Applications from people who have lived in Germany for more than 15 months cannot be considered. You apply online through the DAAD portal, typically with a CV, motivation letter, letter of recommendation, transcripts and a degree certificate or proof of enrolment.
Research Grants in Germany fund stays at German universities or research institutions for doctoral candidates doing their doctorate outside Germany and for postdocs up to four years after their doctorate. Doctoral candidates should have started the doctorate no more than three years before the deadline. People doing their entire doctorate at a German university cannot apply.
For applicants from Poland, the deadline is 16 November 2026, with selection in March 2027 and funding from June 2027. The grant is 1,400 euros a month, for 2 to 12 months for doctoral candidates and 2 to 6 months for postdocs; stays longer than six months also carry a research allowance of 460 euros. The earlier 2027 deadline for this group, 31 July 2026, has passed.
The programme for bi-nationally supervised doctoral degrees supports doctorates run jointly with a German university, either as a cotutelle or in a “sandwich” model with periods in both countries. For applicants from Poland, the deadline is 16 November 2026, with selection in March 2027 and funding from October 2027. Doctoral candidates receive 1,400 euros a month while in Germany, and funding lasts between 7 and 24 months.
The DAAD grants for university summer courses in Germany follow a fixed annual calendar: applications open on 1 September and close on 30 October at 23:59 CET. The window for summer 2027 courses therefore closed on 30 October 2026.
DAAD deadlines for funding in 2027 vary by country and are listed in the official scholarship database. For applicants from Poland, master’s scholarships (992 euros a month, from winter semester 2027/28), research grants (1,400 euros a month, from June 2027) and bi-nationally supervised doctorates (from October 2027) share a deadline of 16 November 2026. Applications for summer course grants closed on 30 October 2026.
