In 2009, the European Opera Forum will be hosted by Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona from 17 to 19 April, and the European Opera Days will celebrate the European Year of Creativity and Innovation on 9 May, Europe Day, all over the continent.
The Forum programme will be divided into three principal strands:
• The primary creators: exploration of their work with leading composers and writers
• The secondary creators: presentation of the work of the most innovative production teams
• Creative ways of reaching new audiences: initiatives with television, cinema, internet
Speakers include leading artists and opera professionals such as Calixto Bieito, George Benjamin, Manfred Trojahn, James MacMillan, La Fura dels Baus, Tony Hall, Sir Brian McMaster and Gerard Mortier. The programme also features a Young Critics workshop and a Creative Residency for young participants, the finals of the European Opera-directing Prize and the European composition competition Opera J.
Three weeks later, opera houses across Europe will invite their audiences to celebrate the European Opera Days on 9 May.
