Maslenitsa, the Russian Sun Festival, celebrates the end of winter and marks the start of spring with music, crafts, food and free family fun. This event is supported by the Mayor of London.
All are invited to come and enjoy the best of varied Russian folk and pop culture in Trafalgar Square.
There’ll also be children’s theatre and games marquee, souvenir stalls and the chance to sample traditional treats such as blini (pancakes), pirogi and chebureki (meat pasties).
For the first time a range of crafts will be demonstrated on the Square, allowing visitors to learn more about traditional techniques.
Maslenitsa is organised by Ensemble Productions with support from the Mayor of London, and is the grand finale of Russian Week in London (11-17 March).
Other related events include a Russian Fashion Show at the V&A Museum, a culinary evening at Mari Vanna restaurant, a special viewing at Christie’s auction house and a literary event at Waterstones Piccadilly.
