University admission in Europe

Found: 1

Hungary

There are two routes, depending on the language of study:

  • programmes taught in Hungarian (state-funded or fee-paying places) – you apply through the central felvi.hu system. EU citizens can apply for a state-funded place. The deadline is mid-February every year,
  • fee-paying programmes in a foreign language (e.g. English) – you apply directly to the university. Each university sets its own deadlines: often the first round closes in November (for a February start) and the second in February (for a September start). Applications for medicine at Semmelweis University are accepted until 31 May 2027, and at the Liszt Academy of Music until 31 March. Admission decisions usually arrive at the end of July.

On fee-paying programmes you usually have to pay all or part of the tuition after admission, before you enrol.

If you come from outside the EU, don't wait for the last deadline: you need your admission letter to apply for a residence permit (see: Residence and formalities).
