Tuition fees in Europe

Found: 1

Germany

Most public universities charge no tuition fees for bachelor's programmes and for many master's programmes. Every student, however, pays a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) – according to DAAD between €100 and €350, depending on the university. For example, at Heidelberg University it is €189.80 per semester (an €80 administration fee, €95 for the Studierendenwerk, €10 for the student union and small fees for city bikes and theatres).

Exceptions:

  • Baden-Württemberg charges students from outside the EU/EEA €1,500 per semester, and €650 per semester for a second degree (Zweitstudium) – this applies to EU students too,
  • TU Munich has charged students from outside the EU/EEA €2,000 or €3,000 per semester for bachelor's programmes and €4,000 or €6,000 for master's programmes since the 2024/25 winter semester,
  • some master's programmes (especially non-consecutive ones) and online programmes cost much more, sometimes over €10,000 per semester.

If you are from outside the EU/EEA, check the fees at your chosen university carefully – they depend on the federal state and the institution.
